What is Thai Massage?

It is a form of interactive manipulation of the body, primarily moving and stretching your body similar to yoga positions. It has been described as ‘lazy yoga’ because the therapist stretches your body for you. Some clients have even been known to fall asleep during the treatment!

What are the benefits of Thai massage?

  • Balances the body’s energy system
  • Improves circulation

How does it work?

Three main methods are used:

  • Applying passive stretching
  • Applying gentle pressure along energy lines
  • Using thumbs, hands, feet, elbows and knees to stimulate energy flow

How long does it take?

2 1/2 hours to 3 hours is the normal recommendation. However, due to the busy life style in the West, an hour and a half may be satisfactory. We can make other times available for your convenience, please ask.

What does each session entail?
1/2 hour
Some stretching, gently pressing on pressure points on the back, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, and head

1 1/2 hours
All the above plus hips, scapula, full legs, feet both front and back, applying simple stretches

2 1/2 hours
Full stretches, working on pressure points and energy lines of all the above parts

Who provides the treatment?
All our masseurs are qualified by ITEC (International Therapy Education Council) and registered with the IGPP (International Guild of Professional Practitioners).

Where does it originate from?
Thai Massage was started in India by Jivata Kumar Bhaccha about 2500 years ago. These days it is primarily practised in Thailand, where it is common among all social groups and throughout the country’s health care system.

What is similar to Thai massage?
It is a unique treatment but is most similar to acupuncture, yoga and reflexology. It is sometimes known as Thai Yoga Massage.

Do you use any oils or creams?
No oils or creams are applied to your body.

What do I wear?
You remain fully dressed in loose or stretchy clothing.

What is the treatment done on?
The treatment is on a mat on the floor.
